Youth Mental Health Education Sessions

Our monthly peer support sessions promote mental health awareness, healthy coping skills, and youth leadership development in a safe and welcoming space.

These 1.5-hour sessions are held during the school year at the San Luis Center or our local community library. Trained Peer Leaders facilitate each session with support from staff and guidance from a licensed mental health consultant who develops culturally responsive, teen-focused curriculum.

Sessions include interactive discussions on topics like anxiety, depression, stress, and coping skills, along with creative activities and guided reflection. Gas cards are also provided to help reduce transportation barriers.

Through consistent participation, mental health conversations become normalized for youth and their families. Our program empowers 12–16-year-olds in our rural Hispanic community to feel supported, included, and heard.

Partnership with Eagle Pass ISD

The Support Hub’s recent partnership with Eagle Pass ISD was built on shared commitment to support the mental health and well-being of our students. Data collected at the start of the 2025 school year revealed real and urgent needs surrounding stress, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Because of these data results, we knew we had to move intentionally, ethically, and collaboratively.

The ongoing commitment from EPISD leadership, including Superintendent Samuel Mijares and Rene Martinez, Director of Federal and Student Programs, has resulted in impactful implementation to provide student well-being support services.

Through this partnership, Ruby Esquivel, LPC-A, is now providing counseling services directly on junior high campuses, ensuring students have access to support where they need it most. This is more than just a historical partnership, it’s a promise to our students that they are seen, heard, and supported.

Clinical Referrals & Family Support

This program provides free mental health counseling for adolescents and families identified through The Support Hub’s monthly sessions. Our staff monitors ongoing participation and recognize signs of emotional or behavioral distress that may indicate the need for clinical support.

We ensure a seamless connection between youth and licensed mental health clinicians. Therapy is offered year-round at MCHD offices and includes individualized and group sessions tailored to each participant’s needs.

By providing accessible, no-cost services, this program helps address the limited availability of affordable mental health care in our rural Eagle Pass community.

Revitalization & Art For Healing

Local youth and Peer Leaders collaborate to design and paint motivational mental health murals at community spaces and Eagle Pass ISD schools. These projects take place primarily during the summer and occasionally throughout the school year.

Students and staff help choose themes that promote wellness, hope, and school pride, creating meaningful artwork that reflects their voices. Through this program, adolescents build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and take pride in beautifying shared spaces.

By bringing together youth, educators, and community leaders, the mural initiative fosters collaboration, mentorship, and deeper engagement in mental health awareness.

Community Outreach & Public Health Fairs

Our outreach initiative includes monthly community events designed to promote mental health awareness, increase access to local resources, and reduce stigma across Maverick County.

Throughout the year, our Peer Leaders and staff participate in local fairs, cultural events, and public gatherings by hosting interactive booths. We share brochures, wellness tools, snacks, and other resources to ensure community members leave with something tangible and informative.

Through strong community participation, we continue expanding our reach and reinforcing the importance of mental health and wellness in our underserved community.
